Middle School

Science

All grade levels will learn, review, and apply the Scientific Method. Students will also be taught lab expectations and safety protocols, as every grade level will engage in numerous interactive, hands-on lab experiments to introduce and reinforce scientific concepts.

Sixth-grade science focuses on Earth and Space Science. Students will explore the Water Cycle and the Rock Cycle, analyze human impact on natural resources, and even become meteorologists to learn weather forecasting. Lastly, they'll journey into space to study moon phases, eclipses, and seasons.

Seventh-grade science focuses on Cells, Genetics, and Ecosystems. Students will learn to use compound light microscopes to study cells and their organelles. They will also dissect frogs to identify the organs that form body systems. Students will explore DNA to understand how traits are passed from parents to offspring and become proficient in creating and analyzing Punnett squares. Additionally, they will discover various types of biotechnology and analyze the human role in selective breeding and genetic modification. Lastly, they will examine how resources impact a population's ability to thrive and explore the symbiotic relationships among organisms in an ecosystem.

Eighth-grade science focuses on Chemistry and Physics. Students will become familiar with the modern Periodic Table of Elements and use it to analyze the physical and chemical properties of elements. They will model the Law of Conservation of Mass through chemical and physical changes and learn to balance chemical equations, demonstrating that matter cannot be created or destroyed. Additionally, students will create a Newton's Scooter by applying the laws of motion, explore the properties of light waves to create optical illusions, and test their engineering skills by studying the transfer of potential and kinetic energy.
