Discover

Discover the Discover Program at Queen of All Saints Catholic School

At Queen of All Saints, we are committed to nurturing the unique talents of every student. For high-achieving learners in grades 1 through 5, we offer Discover, an accelerated program designed to challenge and inspire.

What is Discover?

Discover is a selective program where students must test in and receive teacher recommendation(s). Testing is conducted every spring and may be requested by teachers or parents. This program immerses students in cross-curricular learning through collaborative and self-directed projects that focus on problem-solving, research skills, creativity, and higher-order thinking.

Our Educational Approach: Project-Based Learning (PBL)

The foundation of the Discover program is Project-Based Learning (PBL), a dynamic teaching method that encourages hands-on, real-world problem-solving. Students dive deeply into topics, explore interdisciplinary connections, and create meaningful products that showcase their learning.

Why Choose Project-Based Learning?

Through PBL, Discover students experience numerous benefits that set them up for academic success and personal growth:

  1. Opportunities to actively participate and showcase knowledge in diverse ways.
  2. Increased engagement by putting students at the center of their learning journey.
  3. Development of collaboration and teamwork skills.
  4. Adaptability to various learning styles and intelligences.
  5. Mastery of modern technological tools.
  6. Enhanced social skills through group work.
  7. Cultivation of independence and self-directed learning.
  8. Focus on higher-order thinking and critical concepts.
  9. Seamless integration of cross-curricular content.

How Does It Work?

The Discover program takes students through a structured process of inquiry and creation:

  1. Introduction of the Problem/Unit – Students are introduced to a challenge or concept.
  2. Instruction – New vocabulary and information are taught to deepen understanding.
  3. Expectations – Clear project requirements and rubrics are outlined.
  4. Inquiry – Students brainstorm, research, and organize their ideas.
  5. Product Construction – Students build meaningful, innovative solutions or presentations.
  6. Presentation – Students share their work with peers and teachers.
  7. Evaluation – Feedback is provided through rubrics, self-assessment, and peer reviews.
