Spanish Program

¡Hola y bienvenidos!

At Queen of All Saints, we believe learning a second language is an important part of a well-rounded education. I’m Señora Hoppe, and I’m proud to lead our Spanish program, which introduces students in grades 1 through 8 to the beauty and richness of the Spanish language and culture. In my Spanish classes, students meet once a week to build their language skills through fun, interactive, and age-appropriate lessons.

Here’s a look at what each grade level focuses on:

Grades 1-2: Building a Foundation Our youngest learners explore the basics of Spanish through engaging activities that include:

  • Learning colors, numbers, shapes, opposites, and animals
  • Memorizing and reciting the Our Father prayer in Spanish

Grade 3: Taking the Next Steps Third graders begin to develop conversational skills and expand their vocabulary by:

  • Singing the Spanish alphabet
  • Practicing greetings, titles, and goodbyes through short conversations
  • Learning higher numbers and the days of the week

Grades 4-6: Exploring Grammar and Creativity At this stage, students dive deeper into grammar and self-expression in Spanish. Highlights include:

  • Learning the months and seasons
  • Creating a Spanish weather report
  • Telling time in Spanish
  • Beginning to conjugate verbs and form simple sentences
  • Participating in a fun classroom game called “Survivor” for the chance to be crowned with a sombrero

Grades 7-8: Mastering Language Skills Our most advanced students focus on:

  • Conjugating verbs and building more complex sentences
  • Expanding vocabulary around topics like school and home life
  • Writing complete sentences and reading Spanish paragraphs with confidence

Why Spanish Matters at QAS

Through interactive lessons, creative projects, and real-world applications, my goal is to help students build a foundation for future success in language learning. Learning Spanish is an exciting journey, and I’m thrilled to guide our students as they explore this wonderful language!
